Beginning school year 2021-22, districts must now provide 14 hours of training towards the general certificate to all paraeducators that have completed their Fundamental Course of Study (FCS). We would like to provide district staff with an opportunity to convene in small, virtual “share fairs” to listen and learn from one another about their implementation efforts. Learn more.
Emergency rule extended to help districts meet in-person training requirements for paraeducators
To support schools as they navigate in-person and hybrid learning, the Paraeducator Board has extended an emergency rule providing districts with continued flexibility to meet Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) in-person training requirements for paraeducators. Learn more.

To help improve student access to computer science and reduce educator workforce shortages, the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) is offering grants of up to $25,000 for organizations to support educators seeking credentials in computer science. Learn more.

New certificate renewal requirements
Beginning July 1, 2023, teachers and administrators across the career continuum must meet new professional learning requirements to renew their certificates. Established and passed by the Washington State Legislature in ESHB 1426, these new requirements include focused learning on equity-based school practices, educational leadership, and government-to-government relations.
