Purpose
The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) is convening a workgroup to review state policy regarding the educator assessment system.
On April 24, 2019, Governor Inslee signed HB 1621, a bill to help admit more candidates into the teaching profession by removing the requirement of meeting a specific score on the WEST-B (WA Educator Skills Test – Basic) exam. As a result of this significant policy change, the educator assessment system workgroup will examine current educator assessment requirements, particularly the passing requirement for edTPA, and the case-by-case exception process for Washington content knowledge assessments.
