Purpose
The substitute paraeducator subcommittee is charged with submitting recommendations to the Paraeducator Board on whether or not substitute paraeducators must meet the minimum employment requirements or complete the professional development training (training only required if funded by the Legislature).

Subcommittee product
The subcommittee put forward the following recommendations (document) regarding substitute paraeducators. Highlights include the following votes and recommendations:
- Minimum employment requirements:
- On whether or not substitute paraeducators should be required to meet these requirements, the committee was split on its decision (5 yes, 8 no, 2 abstain).
- In the document linked above, members provided the pros and cons for such a requirement.
- Members also remarked on the questionnaire, in which paraeducators and teachers are highly in favor of having substitutes meet the minimum employment requirements, and HR staff are not in support of such a requirement.
- Fundamental course of study:
- Members do not recommend this as a requirement.
- Members do believe districts should utilize the modules “paraeducators: what we do matters” for their substitutes.
- General paraeducator certificate:
- Members do not recommend this as a requirement.
These recommendations will be presented to the Paraeducator Board during the July 25 meeting.
